FLAMENCO?

Let’s be clear: even though I’m Spanish, I’ve never listened to flamenco. But when my student Juancho (another music junkie), told me to listen to this iconic song because of the drums, I went nuts by the 6/8 rudiment salad, including flams, drags, double paradiddles, paradiddle diddles and buzz rolls…funny, isn´t it?

Seeing my enthusiasm, he suggested I should try playing it, and I accepted the challenge, even knowing it was completely out of my comfort zone, venturing into the demanding fusion territory.

Many months later, after dissecting the song note by note, learning every drum fill variation, taming the dynamics, and playing it faster and faster, I finally mastered it, and I’m proud to have faced this final boss.
